Homes in the Woods South of Town

Tree Service in Keithville usually means working on properties where the woods come right up to the house. Keithville is an unincorporated community in south Caddo Parish, south of Shreveport along US Route 171, with Interstate 49 and Louisiana Highways 169, 525 and 789 running through the area. It began in the early 1880s when two railroads, the Southern Pacific and the Houston-Shreveport line, met on land owned by the Keith brothers. Today it is a mix of older homesteads, newer homes on cleared acreage and plenty of wooded land, including the Eddie D. Jones Nature Park.

Since Keithville is not an incorporated town, there is no town tree ordinance. Parish rules, subdivision covenants and utility clearance needs can still matter, and we check for those before planning a removal.

Common Keithville requests

Driveway and lane clearance. Long gravel drives through the trees need overhead clearance for trucks, school buses, trailers and emergency vehicles. We raise limbs to a safe height and remove leaning or dead trees that could block the drive in a storm.

Trees too close to the house. When a home is built in the woods, the trees left nearest the house often grow toward the open sky over the roof. Those are the trees that end up on the roof in a storm. Removing or reducing the closest few is often all it takes to change the risk.

Clearing for projects. Shops, fences, gardens, pads for RVs or a new septic field all need space. We clear the trees, grind stumps where needed and leave the area ready for the next crew.

Storm cleanup. After high wind, we clear downed trees from driveways and yards first, then deal with hangers and broken tops.

Reading a wooded lot

Not every tree in the woods is a hazard. Many are healthy and well anchored, and they shade the house and break the wind. The ones to watch are the dead pines, the trees with big cracks or cavities, the trees with mushrooms at the base and the ones leaning toward something that matters. We walk the property with you and focus on the trees that could actually reach your house, drive or outbuildings.

Brush and wood

On rural lots, we can chip brush and spread the chips on trails or under trees, leave log piles, or haul everything away. The estimate will spell out which, along with how the work will be done.

Septic systems and roots

Many Keithville homes are on septic systems. Tree roots will find their way into drain lines that are cracked or leaking, and large trees growing over a drain field can slow it down. If you are planning a new system or having problems with an old one, it helps to know which trees are nearby. We can remove trees over or next to the field and grind the stumps without driving heavy equipment across the lines, if you tell us where they run.

Firewood and burn piles

Some rural owners like to keep firewood or burn brush. If you want to burn, check current parish burn rules and weather first. If you would rather not deal with it, we can chip and haul everything.

Keithville Questions

How high should limbs be raised over my driveway?

For cars and pickups, about 14 feet of clearance is a common target. If fire trucks, delivery trucks or tall trailers use the drive, more may be needed. We will ask what uses the drive.

Can you remove trees for a new shop or septic field?

Yes. We remove the trees, grind the stumps if the area needs to be level, and clean up so the next contractor can start.

Do you work outside Shreveport city limits?

Yes. Keithville and the rest of south Caddo Parish are part of our regular service area.

Which trees in my woods should I worry about?

Focus on the trees that could reach your house, drive or outbuildings if they fell. Dead pines, cracked trunks and trees with rot at the base are the usual concerns.
