The Texas Side of the Neighborhood
Tree Service in Waskom is close-to-home work for us, even though it is across a state line. Waskom sits in eastern Harrison County, Texas, and its eastern border is the Texas-Louisiana line. Interstate 20 and US 80 run through town, about 20 miles west of Shreveport and 19 miles east of Marshall, the county seat. Many Waskom residents work, shop and see a doctor in Shreveport, and their trees deal with the same weather that ours do.
A town at the head of two bayous
Waskom's land drains in two directions. Water runs north toward Paw Paw Bayou and south toward tributaries of Cross Bayou, and both carry it east to Cross Lake, which drains into the Red River at Shreveport. That puts many Waskom properties on gently rolling ground with low, wet spots along drainages. Trees on the high ground tend to be pines and upland oaks; trees in the low spots are more often water-tolerant hardwoods. Each has its own common problems, and we look at both when we visit.
History on the old trail
Waskom began in 1850 as Powell Town, likely named for Jonathan S. Powell, who held a land grant here. It was a midway stop on a cattle and cotton trail between Dallas and Shreveport. In 1872 it became a major railroad station and was renamed Waskom Station, then simply Waskom in 1881, after J. M. Waskom, a director of the Southern Pacific Railroad. Some older lots near the center still have trees that were planted generations ago.
East Texas tree work
Waskom sits in the Piney Woods, a forest region of loblolly, shortleaf and longleaf pine mixed with oaks, hickories and sweetgums. Typical jobs here include: 1. Removing dead, beetle-killed or lightning-struck pines near houses. 2. Pruning large oaks and other hardwoods over roofs and drives. 3. Clearing trees and brush along fences and property lines. 4. Storm cleanup after high winds and thunderstorms. 5. Grinding stumps so yards can be mowed and replanted.
Rules on this side of the line
Texas and Louisiana rules for utilities, roads and property are not identical, and Waskom has its own city government. If a tree is near a street, in a utility easement or on a shared property line, it is a good idea to check with the city or the utility before anyone cuts. We will point out anything that looks like it needs a call before work starts.
Getting there
Waskom is a short drive west on I-20, and we treat it like any other part of our area. If you are on a county road outside town, include directions and any gate codes when you contact us, and tell us if there are dogs or livestock on the property so the visit goes smoothly. We are happy to schedule around your work hours for the estimate.

Waskom Questions
Do you really work in Texas?
Yes. Waskom is about 20 miles from Shreveport, and it is part of our regular service area along the I-20 corridor.
Are there city rules about removing trees in Waskom?
Waskom has its own city government. For trees near streets, utility easements or shared property lines, check with the city or utility first. We will flag those trees during the estimate.
What kills pines around Waskom?
Drought stress, root damage, lightning and bark beetles are the most common causes. Infested pines usually cannot be saved and should come down before beetles spread.
Can you handle trees in the low, wet part of my lot?
Yes. We plan equipment access to avoid rutting, and in very wet weather we may suggest waiting a few days for the ground to firm up.
